paula_olivieraPaula Oliviera, the Brazilian woman who claimed she was attacked and mutilated by skinheads in Switzerland, may have fabricated the entire story, including the fact that she was pregnant and miscarried as a result of the violent scuffle. Her lies could land her in jail for three years.

26-year-old Oliviera previously claimed that have been attacked outside of a Zurich train station by three skinheads who carved carved the initials of Switzerland’s main right-wing party onto her skin. The trauma of the attack, she said, caused her to miscarry in a bathroom. Now, officials say she may have made up the entire incident.

Experts in forensice medicine assert all of Oliviera’s wounds could have been easily self-inflicted as, curiously, they were all reachable by hand. Additionally, she suffered no wounds of particularly sensitive areas, such as the breasts and genitals. Here’s an example of the scarring:

Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva originally came out condemning the attack is now taking a “wait and see” approach, saying: ”The matter is being investigated and is being taken very seriously by the Swiss police. These matters should be conducted in secrecy. Let’s wait for an official announcement by the Swiss police.”

There have been similar cases where two other women, one German and one French, carved swastikas and other Nazi-related symbols onto their own bodies. And there is, of course, the case of the John McCain-supporting “B-tard” who carved a B into her own cheek, claiming she had been attacked by Obama supporters. The public suspected something in her story was amiss due to the fact that B on her cheek was, in fact, backwards, and thus most likely self-administered while looking at one’s reflection in a mirror.

So, why would this Brazilian woman do this to herself? The party whose initials “SVP,” she carved into herself - the”Schweizerische Volkspartei,” or Swiss People’s Party - is notorious for its stance against immigrants and for advocating reforms that would would make it easier to expel foreign nationals from Switzerland - of which Ms. Oliviera is presumably one.
