Brazilian Kayaker Pedro Olivia Visits “Today” Show, Much To The Delight Of Ann Curry

Brazilian daredevil kayaker Pedro Olivia visited “Today ” this morning to talk (though a translator) about how he managed to man a kayak down a waterfall.
Pedro set a world record by plunging down Brazil’s 127-foot-high Belo Salto waterfall in his wee little kayak. So how does a nationally-watched television news anchor approach an interview with such a man? By using baby talk, of course.
Watch as Ann profusely compliments Pedro on his English (We’ll admit to not having listened to a word he spoke.) Is it just us, or does Ann have a tendency to talk down to hot male guests? Note the difference in her voice when she addresses Pedro’s translator, Ben Stookesberry, versus Pedro himself:

Ann Cuurry is funny… in interviews more often than not she makes statements instead of asking questions.
She sounds like she’s doing the “You don’t speak English, so I will speak louder and slower to you!” Boo.
And homeboy is hot. His vanilla friend isn’t too bad either.

I kinda like watching Ann’s body language. She starts off with made up sign language. Her hands are regularly in her hair. She’s sitting up, then leans so far over she’s practically standing and then back down again. Her arms flailing about. She is straight up 7th grader at the first dance.

One things I’d like to make you guys (Americans) realize is that English is not an official language here in Brazil (Althought I have to confess it is an international language) and It’s hard to study English here in Brazil (Not hard is what I really mean but it’s not cheap).
I LOVED the treatment Ann gave to Pedro.
I’d like to receive heh same cordiality (kind treatment) which was gave to him.

hi, im brazilian too, he’s hot for sure, but not nearly as hot as the hottest guys ive seen in my country. what i can grasp from this interview is that hes a bit embarassed to not be able to speak english properly to fully describe his emotions and sensations he felt during the waterfall drop.
besides, i think Ann has contributed to this embarassement, by stressing so much their distance over a language barrier.
