Dallas Police Officer Robert Powell Detains Houston Running Back Ryan Moats As His Mother-In-Law Dies

A routine traffic stop in Dallas, routine because it involved harassing a black, male driver, ended in tragedy when Houston running back Ryan Moats was detained outside a hospital as his mother-in-law lay dying of breast cancer inside. The entire shocking video was captured by the offending officer, Robert Powell’s, in-dash security camera.
Moat was pulled over in a hospital parking lot for allegedly running a red light. As he screamed, in a panic, to Officer Robert Powell that his mother-in-law was dying inside the hospital, Ryan Moats’ wife, Tamishia, ignored Officer Powell and ran into the hospital to arrive at her mother’s bedside just as 45-year-old Jonetta Collinsworth died. Ryan stayed outside to say, “yessir,” to this sorry ass, power hungry, racist shitbag for another 16 minutes. In the two part video below, Officer Robert Powell displays gross insensitivity to the situation, draws his gun and threatens to arrest Moats, keeping him in the parking lot until a white lady from the hospital comes outside to tell Officer Robert Powell that Ryan Moats is telling the truth.
According to the Associated Press, Robert Powell, was put on administrative leave, (which amounts to a paid vacation), on Thursday and Dallas Police Chief David Kunkle apologized to Moats and his family. “His behavior, in my opinion, did not exhibit the common sense, the discretion, the compassion that we expect our officers to exhibit,” Kunkle said

I cannot believe that asshole still ticketed him anyway. What a heartless dumbass.

I saw this yesterday and it made me sick. Dallas PD dropped the ticket, but I think they should sack the officer as well.
This story was everywhere yesterday and today it’s even bigger. It’s a huge, nasty mess.
I do understand that police officers need to protect themselves every time they stop someone because they never know who is in that car. Even a routine traffic stop could become deadly. BUT an officer should also possess the ability to discern a potential problem then act accordingly. This officer just went full on asshole and didn’t really take the time to assess what was really happening.
On a side note, that hospital he was parked at is one of the nicest, newest hospitals in the area. It’s located in an upscale part of town. I know problems can happen anywhere, but it’s not as if the police officer was in a rough neighborhood.
