sexy_dora_the_explorer_makeover_3.7.09Beloved cartoon Latina Dora the Explorer is getting a sexy new makeover because, as some of us know from experience, no one likes little chubby girls with pageboy haircuts. Some parents are upset over Dora’s trendy, new look and say the butch, homely version of Dora was just fine.

We first got wind of the proposed changes to Dora’s look last summer, when it was hinted that Dora was going to look “more feminine,” but the teaser silhouette for her new look has only just now been released and the new character is said to be officially revealed this coming fall.

The New Dora has longer hair, wears a skirt instead of her usual lesbian-mom-at-the-beach style bermuda shorts, and has a pair of pointed ballet shoes. God knows explorers find it more practical to wear dancing shoes than sneakers.

An online petition against the revamped cartoon, started by two concerned mom, asks, “What next? Dora the Cheerleader? Dora the fashionista with stylish purse and stilettos? Dora the Pop Star with Hoppin’ Dance Club and “Juice” Bar?” The two women, Lyn Mikel and Sharon Lamb, co-authored a book called Packaging Girlhood.

Dora’s pimps, Nickelodeon and Mattel, argue that they’re merely allowing the character to change with the times. Not only is the new Dora taller and slimmer, she’s also older, in middle school and living in a “big city.” The older version of Dora was a preschooler, a time when one is not yet expected to practice blow jobs on popsicles.

Those behind the petition, however, aren’t buying the companies’ explanation:

If the Dora we knew grew up, she wouldn’t be a fashion icon or a shopaholic. She’d develop her map reading skills and imagine the places she could go. It’s such a sell out of Dora, of all girls.

Silly, all girls are obsessed with shooooopping and boooooys and makeuuuuup! Not icky things like reading and math. Say, we’re meeting Strawberry Shortcake and Totally Stylin’ Tattoo Barbie after school to play “Spring Break.” You in?

Well they’ve already “thinned” out her nose and made her more anglo-looking than previously.

She’s going to look like a Bratz doll… I just KNOW it!!! I wonder if they are going to redesign Diego… I mean, shouldn’t he “grow up with the times” too????

It’s not that serious people - she looks fine - she’s a tween - there is nothing sexy about her - she is wearing a tunic with leggings not a mini skirt - and it’s not for the toddlers it’s for the older girls - she can still be a traveler and solving problems like she always had - what is the big deal people??? Educate your daughters and guide them - that’s the parents responsibility - it’s not the TV !!! You are so worried about what Dora is going to do to your child - you are the ones that need to teach them about reading and math - Dora is a TV character - it’s supposed to be fun……

The fact that there is controversy at all kind of disturbs me. If they want to ban teenage girls from kids’ channels, they should get rid of the Disney Princesses and all adult characters too and show nothing but badly drawn anthropomorphic shapes. I personally would rather have my kid (if I had kids) watching something that looks humanoid and has artistic quality rather than a couple of circles and squares pasted together. It seems to me (and I haven’t been following the issue very closesly; I’m not THAT much of a loser) that people are mourning her “lack of innocence” but just because she grows up does not make her less innocent and it bothers me that people will say that someone is less innocent and therefore raunchy just because she is older. Also, the new character DOES NOT LOOK RAUNCHY, but even if she had big boobs, it would not bother me because it is how you ACT, not how your body is shaped, that determines how raunchy you are. Granted that if her boobs were FREAKISHLY unrealistically big it would be raunchy. But they are not; they’re not even an A cup.

i dont see why the parents are makeing such a big deal out of it.Everyone needs to grow up sometimes .And Dora has reached her teenage years.its not telling the kids that when they grow up they should dress sexy but all people have different ideals on fashion come on people get with the show.

Now we are making over Dora the Explorer what next are we going to show our young children how cartoon figures grow up and do drugs and have sex to. Dora was a great learning program for small children and there are very few of them left now dora is going barbie. it seems that even tho these shows are for kids so fool in this business found out that sex and drugs sell so lets turn dora into the next Whore of the business. Me and several people in my area will no longer watch the program or buy the figures.

It doesnt matter! Good gracious people! The old dora is still gonna be on. This dora is aimed for the preteenage crowd not to your percious little preschoolers!

with this new dora, the show could become more popular because it’s aimed at the tweenies out there, so they could get some spanish influence too, not just some little preschoolers.

I dont see the big deal about this? PARENTS are making a BIG Argument about this “new dora look”! who cares? EVERY ONE NEEDS TO GROW UP!!!! They are still going to be showing the dora with the shorts and short hair from 5 years ago!!!
Dora just needed a little make over!!!
I Personally think she looks Beautiful.
i use to watch dora like 5 years ago but i stopped because im older!
But anyways, You Parents Have to Stop Making a big Argument Because Your Daughter Is going to grow up. Dora just has a new look. and so what because shes going to be doing the same thing she did 5 years ago! Okay, Parents? shes not even wearing a Mini Skirt. and i should know what that is;) Anyways she wearing LEGGINGS under her dress! So Parents Stop Thinkin All this Mumbo Jumbo Stuff Because Your Child Is Going To Be Going Through The Same Stage Dora Is Going Through!

Anyone blasting the new cartoon drawing as sexy is a pervert or just a psycho. Grow up, people! You can pretend to be blind or grossly idealistic, but that doesn’t mean time has stopped for the rest of the society. Get over it. If you don’t like it, you don’t have to watch it. If kids don’t like it, it won’t take off. But at least they’re not going to be making fun of the dorky, outdated, unpopular girl when they reach 7.

ok they are doing this because as your kids grow up they are keeping it so that they still watch dora so that is why they are re-making her so the kids still watch it as they grow up don’t you see that. So i think they sould do this because my daughter has been watching it since she was born and they need to.

Why do you call her shorts “lesbian-mom-at-the-beach style bermuda shorts” Why cant you just call them bermuda shorts. I am a lesbian mother goes to the beach all the time and I don’t wear bermuda shorts.; Lets deal with the dora issue befor you start knocking lesbians

TO ALL YOU NARROW MINDED PEOPLE OUT THERE.
IF IT WEREN’T FOR CHANGE. WE’D STILL BE LIVING IN
CAVES. SO GET OVER YOUR SELF RIGHTEOUSNESS.
LIFE IS ALL BAOUT CHANGE. IF YOU DON’T LIKE SOMETHING THAT HAS CHANGED
    THEN MOVE TO SOMETHING ELSE.
IF YOU DON’T LIKE THE NEW DORA OR THE OTHER CARTOON MAKE OVERS…
HERE’S A THOUGHT…DON’T PLANT YOUR CHILD IN FRONT OF THE TV. SPEND SOME TIME WITH HIM/HER BY READING, GOING TO THE ZOO, OR INDULGE THIER
CREATIVITY THROUGH ART OR OTHER METHODS. TV ISN’T THE ONLY SOLUTION
TO ENTERTAIN A CHILD. BUT IT MAY BE A CONVIENEANCE TO YOU.
I FIGURE THIS IS THE TIME YOU USE TO SURF THE NET AND FIND SOMETHING TO COMLPAIN ABOUT.
