narita_plane_crash_3.22.09A Fedex cargo plane bounced twice before flipping to the side and bursting into flame as it crashed into the runway at Tokyo’s Narita Airport.

The plane, which had flown in from China, was hit by roughly 45 mph winds while trying to land around 6:50 a.m. Winds were so high thar 38 flights into and out of the airport were cancelled, and the longer of Narita’s two runways was closed. The American pilot and co-pilot - Kevin Kyle Mosley, 54, and Anthony Stephen Pino, 49 - were both killed, presumably on impact.

This marks the first fatal crash at Narita, which is the world’s busiest airport.
