anibalacevedo31709The first Puerto Rican governor to ever stand federal trial, Anibal Acevedo Vila, asked for donations to his defense fund during a trial that includes charges of money laundering, conspiracy, and giving false testimony to the FBI. Ya gotta hand it to him. Well, no actually, you don’t. And you probably shouldn’t.

Among the 19 criminal counts Acevedo faces are tax fraud and using campaign money to pay for family vacations in Miami and Orlando, Florida and China and to pay for $57,000 worth of “high end” clothing, as well as to pay personal credit card bills. Acevedo says he asked for the help because his “conscience is clean.” We bet you can pay someone to clean your conscience real good with $57,000.

Acevedo is also accused of illegally raising funds to pay for debts incurred during campaigns in the early oughts. So, basically, you might trust Bernie Madoff with your money first.
