George Lopez Late Night Pilot Features Shakira’s Tim Mitchell And Audience Sidekicks

Turns out George Lopez recorded a pilot last year for his TBS late night talk show premiering this fall. Word on the net was they couldn’t sell it, but obvs. that’s all changed. The pilot featured Shakira’s band led by her guitarist/musical director Tim Mitchell who has made a career working with such stars as Gloria Estefan and John Secada, so he seems to have the Latino market cornered. Personally, we were hoping for Los Lobos, but what are you gonna do?
GLo also told CNN this week that they didn’t use seats during the taping and he doesn’t plan on having an official sidekick for the show, but rather to use whoever looks interesting in the audience. Sounds like someone’s having budget issues already. Still, a random pachuco in the audience might be just the thing George needs to take late night to the otro level. Of course, with Jimmy Fallon on the air, just getting through reading the tele-prompter will be an improvement.
The show will air Monday through Thursdays at 11pm. (Starting in November, as we reported last week.) Name for the show to be chosen from one of our suggestions, natch.

Maybe he can steal Chuy Bravo from the Chelsea Lately show. I also hope he’s funny on his own show because this may be the only chance Latinos are ever gonna get (until Freddie Prinze Jr. decides to give it a go).
If he plays his proverbial cards right, the show could be cutting edge. Ron Dziubla on sax would be a start, and with him -hopefully Kid Ramos, and Los Fabulocos to follow! Maria D.
