Who Is Jackie Guerra? The People Want To Know.

Accused by Mexican Oprah Jackie Guerra of having lame journalistic skills, Guanabee took to the streets of New York to find out just how many fans she has.
After Jackie Guerra stalked us for saying she is best known for playing Selena Quintanilla’s sister in the movie Selena and once having weighed 300 pounds, we began to wonder if she had a point. Were we terribly remiss in our dismissal of Jackie Guerra’s career? Is Jackie Guerra, in fact, the Mexican Oprah and the Delores Huerta of our generation, as she claims to be? To improve our research on the topic, we sent Guanabee’s video editor Marcelo Cunning and editor Alex Alvarez, (fast becoming the Cuban Oprah in that smart blazer of hers), to Union Square–one of New York City’s busiest intersections– to let the people clue us in. But, alas, it sort of ended up being the other way around.

The best part is the Mexican guy saying he doesn’t know who she is.
I’ve seen the Selena movie and I didn’t recognize her. Not because she isn’t fat anymore, just because she’s just not memorable.
I love her necklace on the Tyra show, I’m pretty sure she stole it from the costume department on the set of Selena.
She had a how-to jewelry making show on DIY, mostly shown in re-runs now I guess, since she is still heavy on the shows. She makes her own jewelry and supposedly had a line at one time…

American Oprah would be all over this media challenge, and as the Mexican Oprah, you owe it to yourself (your biggest fan) and the close family members who have defended your honor in numerous blog posts, to set the record straight and let us all know, in your own words, who the hell you are!

I was praying there would be another Jackie Guerra-related post so I’d have the chance to share a wonderful anecdote: in my socio class we were watching a documentary from like 1995 on 2nd generation Latinos and lo & behold, who should be featured in this video but the amazing Jackie Guerra! Her introduction as an “up & coming Latina comedienne & actress” was juxtaposed with a clip of her doing stand-up during which no one laughed. No one knew who she was (except me of course, thank you Guanabee) & I was about to explain how she is reknown for her weight-loss & stalking Latino bloggers, when someone yelled out “Isn’t she the fat bitch from Selena?” It made my fucking day.
Sorry for the long post. Promise it wont happen again :-).

I saw “took to the streets” and I thought the ladies of La Vida Chocha would be making an appearance. Something tells me even they find Jackie’s supporter comments a bit fishy.
