Maritza Thomas Also Stopped By Officer Robert Powell
29 March 2009, 1:14 PM. By Alex Alvarez
Former Cowboys and Dolphins linebacker Zach Thomas has come forward with news that Officer Robert Powell - the same police man who detained Houston running back Ryan Moats as he and his wife were rushing to see his dying mother-in-law - also unlawfully stopped his wife, Maritza, who is Latina.
Thomas says Officer Powell issued his wife a total of five tickets, four of which were later dismissed.
Explained Thomas:
This in no way compares to what happened to Ryan Moats and his family. But we wanted to tell our story, not knowing how many others have been affected by officer Powell. We know the vast majority of the Dallas police force are good and professional people, but this guy just seems excessive.

Maritza Thomas, who was driving with her mother when she was stopped, recalls Officer Powell was extremely dismissive. Her attorney, Brody Shanklin, explains why the officer’s actions were out of line:
This situation never should’ve happened. Unless extraordinary circumstances exist, no person should be arrested for a Class C citation. In this case, it was an example of officer Powell being overzealous and exerting his authority in a manner that he never should have.
Maritza, who did file a complaint with the police department at the time of the incident, says she plans on filing one now in light of the Moats’ experience.

sometimes police take their authority too far simply because they where a badge these people need to get a life! one too many movies and videos about cops they forget reality from fiction this happens in small towns as well not only in big cities these self glorified cops just want a name for themselves and forget serving the public!
Quit being so kind!!! The vast majority of police officers in Dallas or anywhere are Butt Holes!! It is the rare exception to get one with a kind heart. Why be a cop? Answer: So you can do anything you goddamn please, anytime, anywhere, on duty or off duty. Ask Drew Peterson. These guys .love to excercise their authority, love to boss people around. They need to be held more accountable!!!!!!!!!! The best cop is a fired cop!
