oprah_winfrey_3.9.09Oprah Winfrey took time out of her busy schedule to offer a warning to Rihanna: If Chris Brown indeed hit you, he will hit you again.

Former prosecutor Linda Fairstein adds that the situation could escalate to MURDER.

Fairstein says there are several red flags in the case surrounding Rihanna’s attack that indicate a “next time” might prove fatal. For example, the fact that Chris Brown choked Rihanna at one point during the beating: ”Choking behavior is a very interesting factor. It’s hands on, face-to-face. It’s a very intimate type of violence.” (It’s not really still face-to-face if the person being choked in a headlock, but we get what she’s saying.)

As for Oprah, she said she’d like to dedicate a show to “all the Rihannas of the world.” She’s the first person we’ve heard to pronounce the H in Rihanna. Does she know something we don’t, or is Oprah a little out of touch when it comes to celebrities? Anyway, take a listen to Oprah’s warning. She’s one media figure that we’re actually glad has decided to step in and offer some solid advice in this case:

Question: Why does it seem like celebrities are attempting to parent Rihanna rather than her, you know. Own parents? Not having a network of people who care for you makes it more difficult to leave an abusive relationship.

What do you think of Oprah’s warning? Is she butting in for the sake of ratings, or is this a positive step she’s taking to reach out to a troubled couple? …Or both?

Oprah probably has RiHanna’s best interests in mind. Hopefully she wouldn’t try and capitalize on these events.

Oprahs weave looked really full and majestic that day.

Whoa. Am I in a twilight zone. Of all things to poke fun at, it’s not Oprah trying to save lives. A few nights ago a former detective with problems of his own allegedly killed his girlfriend in Greenpoint. Two of my friends and one of my ex’s are cops. The one thing they remind me time and time again is that your biggest threat isn’t a subway mugger itching for my iPhone or my purse - we’re all broke. It’s your significant - or rotten, jealous, lying, abusive - other. It’s not even statistics, it’s sad and true.

Whatever way Rihanna can get the message, the better. It always takes a different perspective, a third party to deliver the truth. Out of 10 of my old high school friends four of us were abused in a relationship.
