State Senator Hiram Monserrate Claims He “Accidentally” Slashed His Girlfriend Karla Giraldo’s Face

State Senator Hiram Monserrate has been indicted on charges of assaulting his girlfriend after he slashed her in the face during a fight in their Queens apartment.
Monserrate was charged with three counts of felony assault on his girlfriend, Karla Giraldo, as well as three counts of misdemeanor assault. If convicted, he will spend up to seven years in prison.
Giraldo, who required over twenty stitches near her eye, initially told medical staff at Long Island Jewish Medical Center that she had been cut during a fight with Monserrate, but later changed her story and said he had tripped on her foot while bringing her a glass of water. She then blamed police of trying to get her to incriminate her boyfriend.
Prosecutors handling the case, however, are all like, “OMG why are you such a liar?” and say that Monserrate attacked Giraldo after finding another man’s business card in her purse. Video surveillance from Monserrate’s apartment building shows him grabbing her arm as she held on tightly to a stair bannister, as well as Giraldo (pictured below) knowing on a neighbor’s door and calling for help.
Which, you know. Doesn’t exactly help Monserrate’s case. Can’t they just fly to Miami, record a duet together, ride jet skis with Diddy, and pretend none of this ever happened?
