Finally: The Smiths Speed Dating

Our recent Twitter obsession New York comic Dave Hill has invented The Smiths Speed Dating, so you can see why we have a big crush on him. We’re just pissed that we never thought to tell you about it being that Latins Love Cool Morrissey and all. The NY Post got to it first, but it’s just as well. Because with our crush on Dave, it would be like a conflict of interest. Now it’s legitimate news and not stalking at all.

Dave says the idea came to him as a joke, of course, cuz he’s a professional comic. You mighta seen him harrassing a Cuban on such shows as The King Of Miami. But back to Heaven Knows I’m Miserable Now- An Evening Of Smiths Music And Speed Dating, (its official title.) The beauty of it is that you know the other participants are as depressed and asexual as you are. Also, the dates are timed to Smiths songs.

“If you get, say, ‘The Queen Is Dead,’ you can have, like, a pretty long date,” Hill says. “But if you get ‘Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want,’ you’re looking at 1:52.

We thought about going a bunch of times, but then we knew we’d just go and stand on our own and leave on our own and go home and cry and want to die. So we skipped it. If you are so inclined, they’re doing it again tonight in Brooklyn. Details are here.
