edward_james_olmos_4_3_09 Edward James Olmos, who you might know from every movie about Latinos ever, was invited by the United Nations Department of Public Information to speak, along with his fellow Battlestar Galactica co-workers, on the subject of how to get along. Weird? It gets weirder when EJO goes on a rant. (Also Whoopie Goldberg was there.) Okay, okay, some context: It seems the Secretary General of the UN, Ban Ki-moon, recently created the Creative Community Outreach Initiative so that famous people could shed light on human rights issues. This is why Battlestar Galactica, a show which took place in the post-post racial era, was invited to come speak on issues close to the UN's heart that are regularly addressed on the show such as child soldiers and political torture. The audience was filled with geeks. It was, according to the Los Angeles Times' Choire Sicha, amazing. Especially when someone got Edward James Olmos started on the topic of "race." Video is below. But Olmos also found cause, during one fan question about his character on the show, to speak on the subject of the violence in Mexico, questioning why the UN has not sent military aid. If you're really a fan of the show, the entire two-hour event is streaming here. Battlestar Galactica ended it's four year run on the Sci-Fi network last month. It will, presumably, be well missed. So Edward James Olmos started to talk about Race and his definition of the word, which is better subject than the silly UN sending troops to Mexico. So do we all agree with Olmos that the definition of race is pseudo-science and there is really only the human race?

Silly? Mass murders are being committed and the people's govt. is turning their back on them. If I am not mistaking, that is one of the reasons/duties of the U.N. I would say the U.S. too but whatever.
