Mexico’s Absentee Daddy President Felipe Calderon Finally Addresses Nation On Swine Flu.

Last night Mexican President Felipe Calderon finally decided to show his tiny, bespectacled head on television to address his nation on the swine flu epidemic that is turning their lives upside down. Speaking in a very deliberate, enunciated tone that could be interpreted by some as defensive, Calderon chronicled the timeline of events that lead to the discovery of the virus, ensuring his constituents that the Mexican government acted swiftly to send samples to the finest labs in the world. (Which, P.S., aren’t in Mexico.) He also remarked that Mexico has plenty of medication to handle the situation and announced that the country will be shut down over the long weekend. 

 

Perhaps Calderon could learn a thing or two from American President Barack Obama and the World Health Organization who have been on television everyday since the news first broke. While Calderon may have his country’s best interests at heart, he may be suffering from the aloof, macho dad thing so many Latin fathers exhibit. Mexicans, with a long history of being disappointed by their government are understandably skeptical. Here’s a sampling of reactions from Facebook last night:
