francois_henri_pinault_4_01_09Very rich, or as the French say, very riche husband of Salma Hayek, Francois-Henri Pinault, was held captive in his plush taxicab yesterday by an angry mob of his recently laid-off employees. Apparently this is what the French are doing these days to combat unemployment. Which is exciting because, you know with these people, the guillotine can’t be far off.

As you might recall, Monsieur Pinault, is the richest man in France and the heir to PPR which owns Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent, Balenciaga and many other things that one could imagine Marie Antoinette encouraging poor people to eat. After recent announcments from PPR that over 1,200 jobs will be cut at these enterprises, an angry mob of 50 employees cornered Pinault’s taxi as he left a board meeting in Paris and barricaded it with trash bins, hanging a sign that read “Pinault is a filthy conman.” Pinault was trapped in the car until the police came and beat the protesters down like the filthy, working-class dogs that they are.

This is the fifth so-called “boss-napping” to occur in France THIS MONTH, but Pinault is the most high profile executive to get attacked so far and the only one who’s had his head between those two luscious mounds of flesh known as Salma Hayek–that we know of. So why the hell isn’t the American press shining more attention on this? Not wanting to give the autoworkers any ideas?

In an AFP article on the trend of boss-napping published last week, one spokeswoman for Sony France whose boss had recently been barricaded inside a factory by employees with the cunning use of trees had this to say, “It’s true that this might seem surprising abroad, but it’s less surprising in France, where we’re more used to this kind of situation.”

Well, that’s true.
