Because It’s Hump Day: Get To Know David Fumero And His… Cuban Coffee Aftertaste?
29 April 2009, 11:03 AM. By Alex Alvarez
If you’re a soap opera fan, you probably already know One Life to Live’s David Fumero for his role as Cristian Vega. But you probably didn’t know that he’s 1) Cuban and 2) extraordinarily cheesy.
Take, for example, this quote by David upon being named OK! Magazine’s “Man Candy” this week:
As Man Candy, I hope I give a little Cuban coffee aftertaste.
Let’s think about that. Does he mean he hopes that we find him bitter? Grainy? Will David Fumero stain your teeth? And what, exactly, is meant by “Man Candy?” How many lick does it take to get to the center of a Cuban coffee-flavored peice of David Fumero man candy? The world may never know.
This leads us to a question we’ve had for a while now: Why is it that Latinos and other minorities are often compared to food? Caramel. Cuban coffee. Hot tamales. Mocha. Chocolate. Hot pepper. It’s not a buffet, people.
Cheesy lines aside, we do commend David the Candy Man for being committed to keeping his (future) kids in touch with their Cuban roots. He says he plans to talk to his kids in Spanish until they’re 5 years old.
The 36-year-old, who was actually born in Havana, is married to his One Life to Live co-star, fellow Cuban Melissa Gallo. And he is often shirtless. So, for this week’s installment of “Because It’s Hump Day,” please feel free to drink David in. (See what we did there? Groan.)

Cuban coffee grainy? Never. Slightly bitter, very sweet and thick, Cuban coffee should be like the acronym CAFE: caliente, amargo, fuerte and espeso. Nuff said!
