Miss Universe Dayana Mendoza Says Guanatamo Bay Is Fun And Relaxing
1 April 2009, 9:45 AM. By Cindy Casares
When beauty queens blog it can only result in one thing: material for us. And when reigning Miss Universe Dayana Mendoza took time from her USO sponsored trip to Guanatamo Bay to record her thoughts reflections and spa treatments, well really this post wrote itself.
Here’s her post in its entirety, dated March 27, 2009, which has already been removed from the Miss Universe Website:
This week, Guantánamo!!! It was an incredible experience.
We arrived in Gitmo on Friday and stared going around the town, everybody knew Crystle and I were coming so the first thing we did was attend a big lunch and then we visited one of the bars they have in the base. We talked about Gitmo and what is was like living there. The next days we had a wonderful time, this truly was a memorable trip! We hung out with the guys from the East Coast and they showed us the boat inside and out, how they work and what they do, we took a ride around the land and it was a loooot of fun!
We also met the Military dogs, and they did a very nice demonstration of their skills. All the guys from the Army were amazing with us.
We visited the Detainees camps and we saw the jails, where they shower, how the recreate themselves with movies, classes of art, books. It was very interesting.
We took a ride with the Marines around the land to see the division of Gitmo and Cuba while they were informed us with a little bit of history.
The water in Guantánamo Bay is soooo beautiful! It was unbelievable, we were able to enjoy it for at least an hour. We went to the glass beach, and realized the name of it comes from the little pieces of broken glass from hundred of years ago. It is pretty to see all the colors shining with the sun. That day we met a beautiful lady named Rebeca who does wonders with the glasses from the beach. She creates jewelry with it and of course I bought a necklace from her that will remind me of Guantánamo Bay :)
I didn’t want to leave, it was such a relaxing place, so calm and beautiful.
Wait, wait, wait. Mark this day. We’re speechless. Thankfully this post is writing itself.
Dayana’s post was promptly removed and replaced with a message from Paula M. Shugart, President of the Miss Universe Organization saying that Dayana was only talking about the hospitality she received from the military and their families. Oh, we’re sure the wives loved her. But if you have any question as to whether or not her visit, meant to spin the fuck out of the foul shit going on at GITMO, is a symptom of all that is wrong and unholy in the world, take a look at what one right wing nutblog had to say in support of her:
Miss Venezuela Dayana Mendoza, by the way, was crowned Miss Universe in July 2008 in Nha Trang, Vietnam. It’s like she’s the In-Your-Face Ambassador of Free World Hotness to the Commie Holdout World.
And scene.

I visited GITMO for about a week, since they only have flights on Saturdays, and I have to say it is a beautiful place during the winter. In the defence of Dayana Mendoza, the Joint Force Task that tortured suspected terrorists probably had a day off when she toured the ‘Detainees Camp.’ you know, they did not want to give a bad impression. The boys at GITMO are not all that bad, if a Cuban refugee manages to survive the swim to the American side, Uncle Sam’s boys will find him or her a place to stay and a friendly country to migrate to, because returning them to Cuban Navy would just be uncivilized…
So….Gitmo is going to be THE new sprink break destination, right??
Of course it is! Let’s go there next year and get our Gitmo on! It’s obviously a loooot of fun and soooo beautiful.
“Get our Gitmo on” is going to be my new thing to say when I’m out bar hopping.
