Can Obama Get His Immigration Reform Bill Through? Yay Or Nay?
11 April 2009, 4:07 PM. By Daniel Mauser
The announcement this week that President Obama is seeking to introduce an immigration reform bill that seeks to legalize many of the nation’s 12 million undocumented immigrants, most of them Latinos, has caught everyone by surprise.
Since the presidential campaign, immigration reform has been an important part in the presidential agenda, but most people thought the President would not tackle the issue until his second year in office. Now, opponents of the bill say the economy should be a priority over any attempt to reform immigration laws; most Americans are concerned with making ends meet than advocating for those who may have no legal standing in this country they argue.
Can the President get the bill approved? Many think he does, the President’s popularity, over 50 percent, has remained high since his inauguration and the sentiment is that he has done a good job, especially in the economy. So this may be the perfect time to get this bill approved.
Frank Sharry, president and founder of America’s Voice, a campaign promoting immigration reform said that two-thirds of Americans have consistently said in national polls that they favor immigration reform that would legalize immigrants in a fair manner.
Are you in favor of the bill? And do you think the President has a chance of getting the bill through? Take our pollĀ and comment to find out how other readers feel about it.

Done a good job? especially with the economy? The economy is not getting any better!
Actually the economy is showing signs of improvement if you know where to look (eg http://www.nypolitics.com/2009/04/08/new-york-city-boosts-bond-sale-to-883-million-cuts-yields/ ) it’s just going to take a while for the employment figures to get better, as they are a classic lagging indicator. As for immigration reform - it locks up the Latino vote for the Dems for a generation, even if the Repukes manage somehow to kill it in the Senate. Maybe especially if the Repukes manage to kill it in the Senate
im very happy for that many of the inmigrants are good people and deserve to be treated with respect
