Oklahoma House Passes English-Only Bill Aimed Against Latinos
2 April 2009, 11:00 AM. By Cindy Casares
Oklahoma House Joint Resolution 1042 is an English-only bill with special exceptions for Native Americans because America successfully killed most of them, so you know, they won’t be speaking much. The bill passed a Senate Rules Committee yesterday and now heads to the floor for a vote. It is the brainchild of Representative Randy Terrill, R-Oklahoma City, where the terrified white people are, apparently.
The Cherokee Phoenix reports that more representatives spoke against the measure than for it when it passed the House on March 11th. Who wants to go on record as a xenophobe? But the reps spoke with their votes and soon the people of Oklahoma may get to decide, if it passes the Senate, whether they want to hang on to their reputation as a backwards-ass state in the middle of nowhere. With a Whole Foods, of course. We shall see.

Wow so no spanish or eyeball tattoos in Oklahoma. Fuck thats no fun. I have to remember to never go there.
I’m curious to see how this affects schools in Oklahoma. Title 1 and No Child Left Behind requires testing of all students. Research shows that if schools do not use multiple languages for teaching, testing and parental involvement, their scores will dramatically fall.
Our new post-racial era really pisses me off sometimes.
