Philip Markoff The Craigslist Killer Had “Issues” With People Of Color, Women
22 April 2009, 9:24 AM. By Cindy Casares
The press continues to be shocked that a clean-cut, young man like Philip Markoff, the alleged Craigslist Killer, who seemingly had it all, (money, education, the right gender, the right skin color), gruesomely murdered a masseuse he hired through Craigslist, but people who went to college with him say he gave off a “creepy vibe” and had issues with people of color and women.
In this video, a former roommate of one of Philip’s friends at SUNY Syracuse describes him as a typical guy with a sense of male entitlement. Not someone you’d say was a “card carrying member of the KKK,” but he “had issues with people of color and women.”
While Markoff remains innocent until proven guilty, detectives have a pretty tight case against the 22 year-old, engaged medical student including video of him leaving the hotel where the victim, Julissa Brisman’s, body was found and the gun and duct tape used in the murder in his apartment. Plus evidence from his computer used to contact women online.
Why the general public continues to be shocked that a young, upwardly mobile white man could be capable of a hate crime is baffling to us. What seems to have gotten Philip caught in the first place is exactly that sense that he can get away with anything.

Joe Coe is an idiot. Just because he likes to give free (I’m assuming) hand jobs to men all over the country, doesn’t mean he should be interviewing with all of these news sources talking about how he knew Phil Markoff. He has an agenda that he’s clearly pushing which is that “men in our society don’t treat women with respect, blah blah blah, etc”. At least Nancy Grace yelled at him because of it…and I don’t even necessarily like Nancy Grace. Good for her though.
Just goes to show there is no profile for a killer. This kid, as ’straight-edge’ as he seemed, was obviously disturbed, as is ANYONE that is able to kill another human being. They aretalking a lot about how technology is changing the way we solve and think about crime (http://www.newsy.com/videos/murder_in_the_craigslist_age/) but I think we also have to start realizing that murderers can’t be defined by race or income or personality.
