walgreens_4_6_09 Are you very recently laid off from your cush banking job? Guanabee’s got the hookup to get you through this tough time because if there’s one thing Latinos (and bloggers) know it’s how to get by on nothing. This week’s great recession find is free healthcare at Walgreens. Too embarrassed to get medical care at a drug store? No prob, there’ll be plenty of leftover Easter chocolate in the aisle for you to drown your sorrows while you’re there.

If you very recently lost your health insurance, as in, on March 31, 2009 or later, Walgreens is offering free routine treatements for “minor ailments” at their in-store Take Care clinics for the rest of 2009. According to a press release, such ailments include, but are not limited to respiratory problems, allergies, infections and skin conditions.

The program is an experiment launched to raise awareness of the Take Care Clinics that exist in 341 Walgreens stores throughout the country, which is another fine point: you can’t get this just anywhere, but if you’ve got the gas money to drive to the nearest big city, it might work out for you. You also have to provide proof of unemployment and your spouse and kids are eligible, too. Hours are from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. More details are here.

In addition to the free clinics, Walgreens also gave us a pretty fair discount on some prescription drugs we purchased last month after we signed up for their Prescription Savings Program. The cost for an individual was $20 for a year, but we already saved as much on our prescriptions. Families pay $35. And the family plan includes pets! So, that’s kind of awesome.

how can you show proof of unemployment?

I have a couple of friends who can benefit from this.

  2. This is awesome! Now if they only put a little taquería in there it would be perfect.
