elvis_seaworld_4.23.09SeaWorld San Diego will be celebrating Latino culture from April 25 through May 17 by hosting an array of Latin music stars… including everyone’s favorite salty seaman, Elvis Crespo.

SeaWorld’s “Viva La Music” celebration will feature the likes of Los Tigres del Norte, pop sensation Reik, and our friend Elvis, who will be at the water park, hose at the ready, on May 1oth.

The event will also feature foods like grilled corn and carne asada tacos. So… not so much a Latino celebration, as it is a Mexican celebration. As usual. Thanks, SeaWorld. We’ll eat ropa vieja while wearing swimmies alone, as usual. No, hey. We’re fine with it.

According to Los Tigres’ lead singer and accordionist Jorge Hernandez, a Crespofied event is perfect for the kids: “It’s definitely a much more family-oriented atmosphere. The parents take their children, the next generation, so they can learn about our music.”

Their hope for the event? Says Hernandez: “We want people to move around, to be very happy.” Moving around such as, perhaps, while seated under a blanket?

Saboréalo!

So, do you think this was a good choice on SeaWord’s part - that they invited Elvis despite the fact that he was caught… red handed… on a plane… doing… some stuff?

Best bet: SeaWorld gearing up for celebration of Latino cultures [Sign On San Diego]

Sorry to hear it was more of a Mexican than Latino thing =/ I am Mexican, but I have an idea how hard it is to be a non-Mexican Latina/o in a Mexican dominated Southern California. To be fair, Elvis is Puerto Rican! And Reik’s music is fairly neutral (ie, the genre they play could come from a lot of places, its not exclusively Mexican, unlike say, Los Tigres del Norte). But anyway, hope you enjoyed your ropa vieja!
