alberto_gonzales_4_14_09The Spanish government has decided to continue a criminal investigation of United States Attorney General Alberto Gonzales and five other high ranking U.S. officials who allegedly gave the greenlight to torture five Spanish prisoners at Guantanamo. Burn! What’s more, both countries are determined not to let this stand in the way of improved relations between them. Let’s see how long before someone calls the current administration unpatriotic.

The issue came up during a Spanish trial of the five Spaniards accused of terrorism. The judge in the case, Baltasar Garzón Real, referred it to Spanish prosecutors to decide whether to press forward. “The evidence provided was more than sufficient to justify a more comprehensive investigation,” said one of the lawyers associated with the prosecution. Judge Garzón, well known for presiding over the case of Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet, is being asked to hand the case over to Judge Ismail Moreno who is currently handling a CIA case of mistaken identity that kept a German grocer of Arab descent imprisoned for almost half a year. The request came because of the “awkward” nature of a judge handling both the alleged terrorists’ and their alleged torturers’ trials.  The five other suspects in the investigation are:

  1. It will be interesting to see which countries rush out statements to the effect that they will not enforce such warrants as the Spanish courts might issue for the “Bush 6″.

Additionally. Alberto G should eat a bag of dicks.
