top_ghetto_black_names_4_2_09Two Houston teenagers, 15 year-old Isaac Treviño and 16 year-old Andrew Cantu shot video of themselves listing their “Top 60 Ghetto Black Names.” Number 12 is Watermelondrea. Still believe the children are our future?

The kids call themselves Team Jupiter and they’ve made many attempts at comedy videos in the past, none of which have gotten much attention. Most of them consist of some kind of politically incorrect prank, but this one, featuring a long list of names that end in suffixes like -isha and -ondra, seems to be getting quite popular on YouTube. It features the guys listing an increasingly ridiculous list of fake names, (along with some real ones), and intermittently holding up such stereotypical African-American items as a bag of KFC fried chicken, a jug of Hawaiian Punch and, inevitably, a watermelon. How did you think of it, guys?

In an email forwarded to us with a message allegedly from Andrew himself, he tells the story of how the idea occurred to him in 8th period.  He began compiling a list of names and his classmates were all too eager to help. They passed the list around and by the time it got back to Andrew, there were 20 more on the page. So, he convinced his buddy Isaac to make this video. He says he thinks it will get on MTV, but he has a history of lying to people about his press credentials. That’s kind of their schtick.

On Andrew’s YouTube channel called thatboyandrew, the guys have this pre-emptive statement posted in their defense:

Before you criticize, know that our videos are made for entertainment and comedic purposes only.
We are not racist, but stereotypes are funny.
We appreciate everyone’s comments and feedback

And some of the feedback they’ve gotten? Little white kids in ski masks regurgitating this offensive crap. It’s a whole movement, really.

Listen here, children. We get it. Teenage rebellion. Shocking. But, while racist humor will win you tons of friends in high school, it’s the kind of thing that will ruin your comedy career when you hit eighteen. Just ask Kramer. So, take those active brains of yours and start coming up with some new material. There’s so much to work with in Houston. Mega-churches, for one. Or Alberto Gonzales. Or the fact that there’s no zoning. Really, the list is endless. But this video? Is not acceptable.

My very good friend was a drag queen and he was this tiny small black man(passed away, we miss him)with huge attitude. He refused to call me Fredo and instead took to calling me Fredine. He said it was my black drag name. Ms. Fredine if you’re nasty, I suppose.

These kids are geniuses. And by geniuses, I mean complete failures. Not being racist, they’re doing it wrong.

ehhh not defending the kids… but i also dont think its like the most atrocious thing ive ever seen either in order to go on a rampage on here… stereotypes are stereotypes.. some are accurate, some are wrong and people use them for comedic purposes for hundres of years… us latinos get called spics and get made fun of for a variety things (some accurate and some not)….. It is what it is..not good, not terrible- just there….. Anyway what do you expect when these kids have Madonna and Ashley Rhinoplasty Tisdale for role models?
