egg-hunt-4.6.09 One UK job firm came up with a unique holiday-themed idea to help fight unemployment: having job-seekers race each other in a search for Easter-eggs filled with job applications. The ungrateful unemployed of London, meanwhile, are saying that they consider it demeaning, somehow.

Skills Training Center (STC) manager Catrina Lynch organized the hunt and she sees nothing wrong with asking a bunch of desperate, broke people to scramble around searching for candy eggs. “It is not meant in a demeaning way. My idea has always been to show people that there are jobs out there. It’s going to be fun.” But the unemployed residents of South London, where the hunt is being held, aren’t exactly clapping their hands with innocent, childish glee. “Asking us to take part in an Easter egg hunt is humiliating,” said one unemployed South London man. Another pointed out; “It’s hard to imagine an unemployed person - weighed down with responsibilities, with a mortgage or rent to find, council tax to pay and maybe a family to feed - being full of the joys, arriving home clutching an Easter egg.”

The STC has defended their idea and is still planning to host the egg-hunt at their South London office on Wednesday. Thirty-five eggs will be hidden around the office for the 150 invitees to search for, with winners claiming the prize inside their egg. Except instead of delicious candy, winners will find prizes like vouchers for business clothing and applications for a security guard job. Jesus would be so proud.
