Is This Creepy Yet?: AB Quintanilla Opens “Pop Rox” Club In Miami, Includes Requisite Gigantic Mural Of Selena

Former Kumbia All Star AB Quintanilla is promoting his latest venture - a nightclub in Miami he’s calling “Pop Rox.” The performer’s venue features a giant mural of his famous sister’s face looming over patrons as they consume their Red Bull and vodkas. Which isn’t really awkward so much as it’s like, dude. You have your own identity. Kind of.
Selena’s face appears alongside other musicians,’ even though… Hm. How to put this. Well, we wouldn’t put J.Lo in a mural that featured Celia Cruz and Tito Puentes. You know?
AB says he opened the club because it is “what Miami needed.” The 57,000 clubs already dotting the city apparently do not count. The club features live music and a Sunday night DJ set by AB that will include everything from cumbia to Luis Miguel. And, says AB, you can get a beer and a shot of tequila for five bucks. Shit. If we hadn’t just insulted his sister’s musical ability, we’d totally roll on down.
Apparently, AB decided to open a venue of his own after being turned away from another club in Miami. Maybe the bouncer didn’t recognize AB (Who says, in his club, he “isn’t special and doesn’t feel like a star.” Which must be so novel a feeling.) or the power surging through his combination soul patch and skinny beard. It happens.

I admit the countless tattoos etc etc might be pushing it but i would DIE if I walked in a club and seen Selena <3 on the wall!
and dont diss Selena, you can still get your ass kicked for that you know!

I wouldn’t put J.Lo’s face on a mural of Legendary singers too, but if there’s is a true Latino Legend worthy of being put in a mural it’s SELENA! Bless Celia Cruz and Tito Puente but when they died they died! Just last month Univision, Telemundo, The Biography Channel, MTV3 all ran Selena specials! Selena continues to inspire above and beyond the Latino Community! Selena gave us so much in her short life and had the potential to enter realms that no other latino artist could ever dream of touching! She was the first singer/fashion designer/actress/perfume maker/crossoover artists to come along! Way before JLo, Beyonce, Britney Spears, P.Diddy, Gwen Stefani etc came along with their clothing line and perfumes, Before Ricky Martin, Shakira, Enrique Iglesias etc Selena coined the word “Crossover” she was the only one who had the guts to follow Gloria Estefan! After Selena all these “crossover sell-outs” emerged! not to mention her movie, thanks to her movie Latinas are paid a MILLION dollars and more for their roles! That was unheard of! When she died she did what no other Latino Artist did, GET THE ATTENTION OF AMERICAN AND WORLD MEDIA. Her issue of PEOPLE magazine was the first to sell out 100% now we have PEOPLE Magazine en ESPANOL! So if you ask me SELENA IS DAMN WORTHY OF HAVING HER FACE IN A MURAL!

When JLo becomes the legend Selena is then put her face on a mural until then leave AB alone. Selena is a legend. She is deserving of this tribute regardless of who gives it to her. There is nothing creepy about this tribute at all. Leave AB alone.
I think its a beautiful mural. Selena’s music, talent, and legacy should not be made fun of. She was a great representation of the Latin People. Her brother is another story! His crazy actions don’t speak for Selena. It’s almost as if they were raised by different parents! Selena was glamorous, kind, and classy! AB is ghetto and trashy!

How could you say these things about Selena?? Are you insane?? Selena is and was a great person! She broke down barriers and records that people did not for her time and age. She deserves some recognition for her achievements. Celia AND Tito broke their own records, they all deserve to be remembered! What’s so wrong with have a mural of her anyway?? Don’t compare her to Jlo because Jlo is famous due to the movie! Selena actually had talent,she was unique and a down to earth person. I’m shocked, normally this website always has Selena’s back, I’m disappointed in this report. Selena Vive!
POP ROXS…Hmmmm this club is so sad. I personally really like the murals on the wall. Like others on here, I really can’t believe you insulted HIS SITER SELENA. She was a the height of her career. and to tell you the truth the wall has a variety of other artist including Dr. Dre. It just may be some of his favorite artist including HIS SISTER. After all it is his club. I like the stage and the sound. It’s all good but unfortunately they have not figured out what to do to promote it and get it on and popping. The only time I have ever seen a good turn out there is when they had a reggae band with this really good chick. Pop Roxs prides itself on live music but is no where near Tobacco road, Jazid, Bouganvilles or Churchill. These clubs don’t even have the set up for live entertainment that Pop Roxs has, yet pop roxs SUXS. It’s so sad. They need a new manager…. Seriously!!!!!!!!!
