guanabee-glossary-5.28.09If you’ve ever asked a Mexican whether it’s cold enough for a chaqueta or asked a Cuban to pass a bollo at dinner, you’ll know that Latino slang terms can vary from country to country, region to region, generation to generation, a reality that often results in embarrassing situations. Guanabee Glossary is our attempt to teach you Latino slang and save you from looking like a weird-ass fool in mixed company. Enjoy it, cabrones.

huevón

[huay-vohn] noun, adj.

This word, literally “big balled / with big testicles” is used to describe someone, typically a man, who is very lazy. The thought process behind this seem to be that one’s massive, heavy balls get in the way of one’s ability to perform tasks.

José nunca quiere limpiar la casa porque el es un gran huevón.

José never wants to clean the house because he is lazy.

Or at my house, my mom just makes a gesture with her hands like she’s holding a huge nut sack. Pretty gross when you think about it but we know then that it’s time to get our asses off the couch.
