guanabee-glossary-5.25.09If you’ve ever asked a Mexican whether it’s cold enough for a chaqueta or asked a Cuban to pass a bollo at dinner, you’ll know that Latino slang terms can vary from country to country, region to region, generation to generation, a reality that often results in embarrassing situations. Guanabee Glossary is our attempt to teach you Latino slang and save you from looking like a weird-ass fool in mixed company. Enjoy it, cabrones.

mama

[mah-mah] noun

Mama (not to be confused with mamá) can be used to refer to a small, female child, tenderly, or a large, female lady, sexually.

Vamos a la dulceria, mama, para comprarte un pirulí.

Let’s go to the confectioner’s, sweetie, to get you a lollipop.

Mama, si cocinas como caminas, me como hasta la raspita.

Babe, if you cook like you walk, I’ll even eat the rice that sticks to the pot.
