Hairstyles White People Like: Kate Gosselin’s Pixie Bob

In reading about the ongoing duhrama between Jon & Kate Plus 8 stars Kate and Jon Gosselin (he maybe cheated, she probably cheated, their eight kids are being cheated), one thing in particular succeeded in tugging at our soul and bringing tears to our eyes - Kate’s hair. Lovingly referred to as the “Pixie Bob” by some, we couldn’t help but notice that this seems to be a style of hair almost exclusively worn by white, American moms in the suburbs. Why might this be?
Says Kate of her much-emulated style:
It’s my attitude. Everybody wants it. It’s work. I have very, very thick hair, so it’s not going to work for everybody. I’ve seen people come through the book line with thin hair and it’s just won’t work. My hair stylist gets calls from all across the country.
Where we’re from, which is sort of like America but not at all, moms typically wore their hair long, streaked blonde, and ironed and blown out until it resembled a squirrel stuck in an airplane engine. Hot! Where we live now, mom’s tend to wear their hair long, often in natural curls, and often tied back in a scrunchie or clip.
Its always interesting for us to observe how people’s styles change according to their neighborhood and wondering why that might be. Do suburban moms just have more time and money to devote to their hair than moms in more urban areas? Do moms who are from “less traditional” (sigh) backgrounds feel comfortable taking more risks with their style?

We suspect some moms find this style easy to take care of (although, it’s not - those little spikes at the back need styling to retain the look you get right after a trip to the salon) but with an “edge.” Like a Garfield plushie wearing a leather jacket.

Some British moms like this, too.

At least some people refrain from getting their new cut bleached and lowlighted until it resembles straw.

Anyway. How did your mom wear her hair, and where is she from? You get +25 Glam Points in she has this haircut and +103 Glam Points if she’s modeling said style in a Glamour Shot.
