Tiny Fat Latinos Are Taking Over America

Hide your chocolate-glazed bubulubus and throw away your jars of dulce de leche, because it seems that Latino children are taking over this country. More than one in every five children in the United States is Latino and over half of the 16 million Latinos under the age of 18 are second generation, meaning they have at least one parent born in another country. And approximately four out of ten Latinitos are third generation or more. One of us.
Research by the Pew Foundation has determined that, typically, children of Latino immigrants tend to enjoy a higher economic status than their parents. Ha! Not if you’re a blogger!
We wonder what this will eventually come to mean for people who continue to think all Latinos have recently arrived to this country, bewildered at things like cars and currency, not knowing how to speak English or become productive members of society.
We also wonder at one point, if any, people stop being Latino. If your relatives came to the United States from a Latin American country five generations ago, are you still Latina? And, along those same lines, at what point can we start considering the United States a Latin American country? Because, oh ho ho, it’ll happen. More and more Latinos will be moving in and having fat babies and soon we’ll no longer have a need for a secret handshake to know who’s Latino and who is just a Guanabee.
