If Mega Shark Versus Giant Octopus Turns Out To Be Fake, We’re Going To Throw A Ginormous Shit Fit

So now there’s a rumor that the best movie of all time, Mega Shark Versus Giant Octopus, starring Lorenzo Lamas and Deborah Gibson, is nothing more than a viral campaign for the MTV Movie Awards. Why would you dangle Lorenzo Lamas in front of us only to pull him away, MTV? Why would you do something so senseless, so cruel?
Anyway. Here’s some explaining why the trailer might be fake:
If it’s fake, it’s a hell of an elaborate ruse. See the film’s IMDB and Amazon pages, the latter of which will actually sell you this DVD on preorder for May 19. Except that MTV lists the street date as May 26 — a few days before the MTVMovie Awards. And cult filmmaker Jack Perez (who directed no less than the pilot for Xena: Warrior Princess but is here credited by several sources as “Ace Hannah”) previously shot the 2004 horror comedy Monster Island for… MTVProductions. And why would MTV have an exclusive on a straight-to-DVD genre trailer anyway?
The trailer, by the way, does look like a very well-done fake trailer. It has a high budget look (and the monsters themselves look great), but the setting and the, uh, talent involved do scream low budget. This mix of high and low does raise some doubts. Then again, the production company that ostensibly created the movie - The Asylum - is a real company that produces “shadow” movies based on current blockbusters, like their straight-to-DVD release The Terminators. So, that’s something:
If this does turn out to be fake though, and our hopes raised only to be dashed violently by a boring, corny awards show, someone is going to be turned into giant rings of fried calamari with mega zesty dipping sauce. Punks.
Get Bernie Madoff and Octomom to fight and have one of them tear apart the Golden Gate Bridge, but we want to see a motherfucking plane pulled out of the motherfucking sky. By a motherfucking shark. Got it?

Looking at the Asylum website, they put out some pretty campycrappycrazy shit so I wouldn’t be surprised if this movie is actually gonna happen.
