We’re Not Sure What The “Mexicanas, Mujeres De Valor” Campaign Will Inspire, Except Maybe Parody Videos
11 May 2009, 12:00 PM. By Alex Alvarez
We’re not exactly sure what this video promoting Mexicanas (mujeres de valor) seeks to accomplish. The promo, funded by Televisa, includes the likes of Anahi, Lucero, Yuri, Pandora, Angelica Maria and many other famous Mexican stars singing about the qualities and talents Mexican women possess - They smile! They work! They have babies! They love! They wear extensions!
How, exactly, does this represent Mexican women? And where is Salma? Not singing in front of Aztec ruins, that’s for certain:
We think the campaign’s heart is in the right place, but it could have gone one step further by including Mexican women who aren’t necessarily entertainers or super rich and by doing more than simply mentioning that Mexican women smile, have babies and go to work. What about images of Mexican women working in hospitals, or playing with their kids, or painting, or writing, or being involved in politics, instead of shots of women smiling against beautiful Mexican landmarks? What about Mexican women who are poor, or who don’t wear makeup, or who couldn’t be bothered to dance in front of a green screen while giant rose petals fly past?
We do completely appreciate, however, that this looks exactly like videos we’ve seen played at many a quinces. Internet, this is begging for a parody video. Don’t disappoint.

If I was a singer, all my music videos would be just like this one.
Y honestamente.
We all know that Mexicanas come in a wide array of colors shapes and sizes. WTF con this anglo-cized version of Mexicanas ONLY?
I think this is supposed to be a video to promote a new show that they are working on, and will be on the air soon.
Mexicanas ONLY.. because it is a show by Televisa, and will be on the air in Mexico. So yeahhhhhh… that is why it is Mexicanas only.
It’s a campaign for women, not a TV show. And at no point did anyone ask why only Mexicans were involved.
It is a campaign/contest/ and there was talk they are going to air it. Which I am sure will happen, you know, they like to do that stuff and air it on Sunday nights. Anyway, I was saying Mexicanas Only because I obviously didn’t read the above comment correctly.
Duh!
why would u want salama in it? salma to mexicans isnt even considerd a mexican she is now americanized. yes she has done very well but u dont see her doing something for her people. These wonderful talented mexican artist are true aritist with wonderful voices that show us the beauty of mexico. This video is another idea to help out and promote the good that there is in mexican women. Hardworking women
why the fuck does Salma have to do shit for people? Fucking understand that when you “make” it, you have no effin obligation towards anyone but your family, why are the hell aren’t the middle class people forced to do shit for their people? Everyone has to fend on their own, no one is going to hand u the world in a platter buddy…
