Oh. Em. Gee. Robby Benson As Chicano Gang Member In Walk Proud
25 May 2009, 11:45 AM. By Cindy Casares
You guys. Robby Benson played an East L.A. gang member in a 1979 movie called Walk Proud and it’s playing tomorrow on Turner Classic Movies as part of that Latino Film Festival we told you about. This may be the greatest movie ever made. For us to poop on! For the very young, Robby Benson was the “go-to troubled teen” type for Hollywood in the 1970’s–and no, not a hispanic one, Robby is Jewish–whose biggest claim to fame was probably the movie Ice Castles. But, let’s face it, Robby always weirded us out even as a gringo. (What was with that huskey voice thing? Guess that’s why he got the role of the Beast in Disney’s animated Beauty & The Beast.) But as a chicano gang member? This can only be the best piece of shit ever committed to celluloid which is why we figured you’d appreciate a DVR alert, and a little opening sequence to whet your appetite.
