Osmel Sousa Does Not Believe In Inner Beauty Because, Seriously, Have You Ever Seen A Kidney?
13 May 2009, 4:00 PM. By Alex Alvarez
As President of the Miss Venezuela pageant, Osmel Sousa knows a thing or two about beauty. And those things are big, round, slathered in bronzer and decidedly on the outside of one’s body. This is because Osmel Sousa does not believe in inner beauty. After all, you don’t win a beauty pageant by being nice. And, apparently, you don’t run them that way either.
Sousa says he’s always brutally honest with would-be contestants who just don’t measure up to the standards of his pageants and he has no qualms about telling dogs to go back to pound. High five!:
When it comes time for me to judge a contestant - something I’ve had experience doing for 30 years now - I have to be the bad guy and I have to be honest because I don’t want to waste their time or my own. If they’re not beautiful, I tell them to come back next year and then later I’ll tell them the truth: “You don’t measure up and you should and you should get any thoughts to the contrary out of your head.”
Oh. Ha. These aren’t tears; our eyes are purging.
Sousa goes on to say that he doesn’t believe in inner beauty because human organs are kind of gross. Beauty, he opines, is in what you see, not in what you hear. He goes on to tell the interviewer that she seems like a nice lady, but she’d never be able to make it in one of his pageants. Which was probably heartbreaking for her since it is every girl’s dream to walk on a stage in a bikini and double-sided tape and be judged by people who look like Oompa Loompas.
