Latina Names Rise On The List Of Top Baby Names For 2009

The world is populated with more and more Mileys and Baracks than ever before, according to the Social Security Adminastation - despite Miley Cyrus being increasingly known merely for being obnoxious and Barack Obama being too early into his presidency to become embroiled in some salacious or embarrassing scandal. The name Bsrack moved up a whopping 10,126 spots. We can’t wait to have our own little Barack Sienna Rayne Alvarez someday. Interestingly though, while “Miley” gained popularity (Fun fact: Miley Cyrus’ birthname was Destiny Hope, and her childhood nickname was “Smiley.” Please, please don’t ask us how we know this.), Hannah, the name of Miley’s on-screen alter ego, dropped out of the top then. The top girls name for 2009, by the way, is Emma, with Jacob remaining the top choice for baby boys for the tenth consecutive year.
Biblical names like Daniel and Joshua remained popular for boys, but take a look at these new girl names on the top 1,000: Isla (623), Mareli (718), Milagros (731), Dayami (750) and Nylah (821).
Well, well, well. Milagros is a pretty traditional name and we’re so glad that more and more people take such pride in their womb goblins so as to label them miracles. And Dayami, a combination of “Dayum” and “Mami,” is a totally hot name.

Excellent take on Dayami. Maybe I should name my next pet that just so I can explain the etymology.
This is a tangent, but I hate when parents give their kids last names for first names. Loathe it for so many reasons.
By the way, does anyone know where Socorro falls on the current list? I love that name. Is there a nickname for Socorro?
the nickname for Socorro is Soqui, I have a friend with that name and everyone calls her Soqui.
