Superpecado: Wal-Mart Sued By “Wetback” Workers
13 May 2009, 10:16 AM. By Alex Alvarez
Just as the company is drumming up publicity over its brand spanking new line of Latinocentric supermarkets for short fatties, Wal-Mart is being slapped with a lawsuit by the the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) on behalf of ten Latino Sam’s Club warehouse workers in Fresno, California who said employers stood back and allowed them to be discriminated and referred to by derogatory terms like “wetback.” Wal-Mart is Sam’s Club’s parent company in addition to being major shareholders in Hell, Inc.
Anna Park, a lawyer for the EEOC’s district office in LA, explained the suit:
The harassment started with one particular co-worker, but ultimately this has to do with management’s failure to stop the harassment. After it was reported to managers, they didn’t do anything about it and allowed it to continue.
The EEOC filed the lawsuit only after it had attempted to reach a voluntary agreement with the company. The organization is now seeking compensatory and punitive damages from the mega conglomerate under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which makes it illegal to discriminate workers based on their country of origin.
This isn’t the first time Wal-Mart has been brought under fire for discriminatory practices - women, black truck drivers and those with cerebral palsy have also brought suits against the company.
So. Remind us again why it is that people shop at this place? Is it really more convenient that visiting a regular supermarket or bodega? Is it that much cheaper than a dollar store or a Goodwill? We think it’s fine that a national chain should want Latino dollars and should try to include products that cater to different cultures. But when all a company is interested in is money to the detriment of its own employees and customers then, well. We’re going to buy our toilet paper at the corner bodega or continue swiping it from the office. (Just kidding.)

I definitely wouldn’t miss wal mart if it were to fall off the face of the earth
Outside major metropolitan areas they are also major killer of small businesses which simply cannot compete.
People shop there cause it’s cheap. Sadly this makes Walmart a particularly attractive shopping destination to precisely the sort of people that it victimizes as workers.
Not everyone can afford the premium the neighborhood bodega charges for toilet paper.
It’s also very difficult for small neighborhoods to prevent Walmart/sams club from building stores in their areas. if a neighborhood refuses it will build as close to that town as possible. it also convinces people it will bring jobs, low paying jobs but jobs nonetheless.
Henry Ford famously said that he wanted to pay his workers enough so they could buy Ford cars. Walmart does not pay its people enough so they can shop at Walmart.
One of my brothers is seriously anti-Wal-Mart. For many years, he has been sending me sad but true info about Wal-mart from various places. And most recently from here: http://wakeupwalmart.com/
I highly recommend that everyone watch the documentary “Wal-Mart: The High Cost of Low Price.” It’s an eye-opener!
