Just In Time For The Parade, Here Are 10 Puerto Ricans Who’ve Done A Baile De Bomba In Our Hearts
12 June 2009, 5:30 PM. By Alex Alvarez
It’s coming people! The Puerto Rican Day Parade is almost here. In case you happen to be a silly caca who plans on staying home instead of being out and loud and fashionable, you can celebrate the parade by reading through this list of 10 (technically 11, we guess) Puerto Ricans we’ve found inspiring, influential or annoying enough to get under our skin (JOSE FELICIANO!!!).
Here we go, nenes:
10. Emme & Max Anthony

Do not be surprised when these little womb goblins become the world’s most glamorous actors / singers / producers / designers / divas. Oh, it’ll happen.
9. George Perez

A cartoonist for DC and Marvel Comics, Perez is responsible for relaunching the one and only Wonder Woman.
8. Jose Feliciano

Because we think about him each and every Christmas, whether we want to or not.
7. Carlos Albizu Miranda

Albizu is the first Latino educator to have a North American University named after him (it’s in Miami!) andis one of the first Latinos to earn a Ph.D. in Psychology in the United States
6. Rita Moreno

Can we agree that this Oscar, Grammy, Golden Globe, Emmy and Tony award winner is pretty much the most fabulous woman who ever was or will be? She’s beautiful, talented, smart, and played a Cuban abuela on Cain. No one holds a candle to Rita Moreno.
5. Aida Alvarez

Harvard-educated Aida was born into a financially struggling family in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico and went on to become the first Latina woman to hold a United States Cabinet position.
4. Elizabeth Vargas

Journalist, anchor and a person with one of the best “executed serious journalist arm cross”moves ever.
3. Erik Estrada

Erik began his career playing the Frito Bandito in a commercial. Somehow, he was able to move on from this to become one of the world’s sexiest TV cops everrrr. Plus, he’s currently on a mission to combat child pornography on the internet. What a guy.
2. Luis Guzman

Dude has been in everything from Shorts Eyes and Carlitos’ Way to Crocodile Dundee 2 and friggin’ Walker Texas Ranger and he’s one of the most underappreciated character actors out there.
1. Sonia Sotomayor

Have you heard that Obama’s nominee for Supreme Court Justice is Puerto Rican?

FELIZ NAVIDAD!
Ponch is Puerto Rican? Really?
I have this T-shirt in yellow which I picked up at Tompkins Square Park some years ago and I treasure. I’m wearing it Sunday in honor.
Oh how I hate your song, Jose Feliciano.
Andalé, Boricuas everywhere!
My heart goes out to all of y’all enjoying the parade, while I watching longingly from the SF Bay Area.
WEPA a todos mis hermanos Puertoriqueños!
