Meet Cristiane Santos: The Brazilian Mixed Martial Artist Known As “Cyborg”

The intertubes are all abuzz with news that Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos is set to fight popular mixed martial arts fighter Gina Carano August 15th for a 5-round match in the newly-implemented 145 pound weight category at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California.
In seven fights, Santos has lost but once, to fellow Brazilian Erica Paes. Carano, whom you might also know as American Gladiator’s “Crush,” has a seven match winning streak - as well as the distinction of having been #16 on Maxim’s Hot 100 list this year.
Santos once failed to make weight for the 145 division - she weighed in at 152 pounds - and blamed the weight gain on menstruation. While her fellow fighters called bullshit on her excuse, we’ve been known to go up about five pounds or so during our monthly visit from the vagina fairy, to use a delicate euphemism.
Cristina’s husband, fellow Brazilian Evangelista Santos, is also a mixed martial arts fighter who also goes by the nickname “Cyborg.” Apparently “Robot Ninja Pirate Elf ZAP Boom” was taken. That would have been our first choice, too.
Anyway, our money is on Cristiane, if only because her death glare is more frightening and impressive than Gina’s.
