Singer German Montero And His Manager Under Police Investigation

Singer German Montero was detained after a concert in Ohio after police pulled him over to discover that his paperwork did not match the license number on his rental car. Additionally, Montero’s manager, who was also in the car, had several cell phones and over ten thousand dollars in cash on him at the time that they were pulled over.

Ohio police detained Montero for five hours before letting him go.

Some bloggers seem to think that there may have been racial profiling at work here. And some even seem to sort of agree with it?:

Poor guy he was confused for a criminal, but if I was a cop I would probably make the same mistake. He was carrying a lot of cash and come on he does look like a drug dealer wannabe but at least his name was clear and mi cousin who thinks he is cute can see more of him.

So let’s jump away from theft - that’s more something that “someone like Flex” or Daddy Yankee might be into, right? - or hustling and move straight into drug dealing because, hi, the guys wears cowboy boots. What does a “drug dealer wannabe” look like? Because, if COPS is any indication, drug dealers usually look like black/white/anglo/hispantino men/women with/without teeth who wear t-shirts/suits. We’re not saying driving around with a car full of cash and several cell phones in what from all outward appearances seems to be a stolen car isn’t suspicious - if we were a cop we’d have taken them in, too. 

But if German Montero looks like a wannabe dealer then, you know. So does everyone. Or, let’s call it like it is, then all tan, youngish Latino men with gelled hair and sculpted facial hair who wear dark shirts and boots look like drug dealers. Which is… like, half the Southwest and more than a few people we’ve run into in New York. So let’s try and cut the bullshit, fellow Latino bloggers. Ok?
