If you’ve ever asked a Mexican whether it’s cold enough for a chaqueta or asked a Cuban to pass a bollo at dinner, you’ll know that Latino slang terms can vary from country to country, region to region, generation to generation, a reality that often results in embarrassing situations. Guanabee Glossary is our attempt to teach you Latino slang and save you from looking like a weird-ass fool in mixed company. Enjoy it, cabrones.
pendejo
[pen-deh-ho] noun, adj.
The word pendejo has different shades of meaning which vary from country to country. Its literal meaning is “pubic hair.” In many places, however, it is used as a slang term to describe a jerk or idiot. In Argentina and Uruguay, the word can be used to describe a young person who presumes to be an adult, like “a little punk.”
No me gusta encontrar pendejos en mi cama.
I don’t like finding pubic hair / jerks / little punks in my bed.

you know, i hear this word tossed around all the time (i always thought it just meant stupid and wondered why it was bleeped on univision/televisa novelas) and now i know what it means im concerned if the people i hear say it know what it means.
I was in Colombia and working with a kid there who went to get us coffee. When he came back he tried to carry a bag of cups up a ladder. Being such a superior gringo who knew some Spanish, I said “Hey, pendejo.” All the guys laughed but he was so hurt, I didn’t see him the rest of my time there. I was really sorry.
