guanabee-glossary-6.4.09If you’ve ever asked a Mexican whether it’s cold enough for a chaqueta or asked a Cuban to pass a bollo at dinner, you’ll know that Latino slang terms can vary from country to country, region to region, generation to generation, a reality that often results in embarrassing situations. Guanabee Glossary is our attempt to teach you Latino slang and save you from looking like a weird-ass fool in mixed company. Enjoy it, cabrones.

puto

[poo-toe] noun

Puto is the masculine version of “puta,” or “whore” (rather than the more objective term “prostitute.”), although it can be used in some contexts to refer to a jerk or as a derogatory description of a homosexual man. Puto is also a rice cake commonly consumed in the Philippines.

Tengo hambre y voy a comer un puto.

I’m hungry and I’m going to eat a rice cake / some trick dick.
