picture-45The man pictured at left is named Carlos Soto. He is the owner of an Italian restaurant in Argentina called Guido’s. As the name suggests, it is a classy establishment, attracting the likes of Mark Sanford and Maria Belen Chapur. Mr. Soto, who claims to have served the couple, says that the Maria Belen Chapur involved with South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford  has blonde hair and is quite fit. He also says it is not the woman “in the photos,” which we guess means it is absolutely not this woman, whose Facebook photos were circulated ’round the internets yesterday. It might still be The Woman With The Eyebrows, although she would have to have dyed her hair since 2001. Which is possible, but ill-advised.

Watch as he discusses all this with a reporter while plugging Guido’s at every possible opportunity. And, to think, he’s not even discussing cruising for breeders on the Jersey Shore:

Translation:

Reporter: We’re here at Guido’s in Palermo with owner Carlos Soto. Carlos, you told us that they had come here last year.

Carlos: Yes, Maria Belen had come before with the American, I believe, and I assumed he had something to do with the US Embassy. That day they came, I served them. I can’t give a lot of details. This is an Italian trattoria and I brought them an antipasto, then a steak.

Reporter: You mentioned that photos that are circulating around are not that of the Maria Belen that you know. (referring to the initial pictures that came out)

Carlos: Maria Belen is much thinner than the woman in the picture. She has blonde hair, she’s physically fit. I can’t tell you very much because I have the feeling that I am telling you what I know about the Belen that I know. I had seen them together before, saw them together last year, and she had come in on other occasions with the Embassy, because the US Embassy is nearby and many people there come to eat here quite often.

Reporter: You mentioned to me that they came here last week.

Carlos: Well I was in Europe, but the person in charge of the building where she lives told me that they came here to eat. I am sure at some other point they came here because Americans love to come and here because we serve nice Italian and Mediterrenean food, but other than that I can’t tell you more.

According to Guido’s official site, the restaurant, founded in 1981, was a favorite of both Don Corleone and Albert Einstein. So, we definitely believe his story.
