Twenty-six year-old Jose Carasquillo of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania was named as a “person of interest” in a case of an eleven year-old girl who was raped so badly on her way to school yesterday morning that she needed surgery. The town quickly mobilized to find the man who did it and police released an image of Carasquillo. When he was spotted by neighbors at a local deli, they called the police and when Carasquillo tried to flee, it turned into a mob attack. He suffered head injuries and was taken to a hospital. Police said today that he has been upgraded from critical to stable condition and no arrests have been made in the girl’s rape case.

It’s obvious from the interviews in the above video that the neighborhood where this happened, Kensington, is home to a large Latino community, and the question occurred to us, would this have happened in a white neighborhood? Do Latinos have their own brand of justice? Or maybe people of color in general? We’ve always said you don’t hear about a lot of Latina women being stalked because their family would just go kill the guy. What do you think?

Good! Normally, I’m against this type of mob violence, but again this misogynistic bastard * was tied by physical evidence and he had a prior incident of trying to rape a woman. He traumatized a little girl’s life just because he could. BEAT HIS ASS! Better yet: never let him out of jail (He’ll just do it again).

I believe the reason why so many Latinos, especially those with immigrant ties, may be more prone to vigilante justice is because the police back home are corrupt as hell. Even the Catholic Church is known for helping drug lords, so someone has to take care of business. And there are some of us men who take anti-female violence (or violence against kids) as the ultimate sin. Once you aggressively attack a woman (or kid), you’re no longer a “man.”

*What, you think rapists just happen to overwhelmingly pick women and girls to assault and torture? Using sexuality as a weapon doesn’t excuse or cancel the effect. Rapists basically choose victims on the basis of gender, whether it be Jeffrey Dahmer who hated males or this bastard.

Many years ago there was a serial killer in LA - the Night Stalker. He was caught by some men out for menudo in East LA on a Sunday morning and beat to a pulp. Okay by me.

I am from the philadelphia area and can say i think this mostly comes from people in communities like this one trying to keep their own neighborhoods safe,

Its not a racial protectionist thing either since the little girl was black and the men who beat him were puerto rican or dominican with the suspect most likely being either PR or D.

Things like this happen to women and girls of color in these areas and some people from these communities, whether right or wrong, feel that cops and media don’t really take it seriously unless the women or girls are Caucasian. To be honest, i don’t think this topic would have ever made surrounding news outlets if the men never beat up the suspect, so that does say a little bit about how the importance placed on these things happening to women from communities like this one are to media sometimes. I don’t recall anyone ever reporting about other times this has happened to young girls in this area outside of our local news, so some of the people who live here may have a valid point of, “If we don’t take this guy down who will”,

BUT i do not condone this behavior and do think maybe they should be given a fine or something just so they will think twice about beating a person so severely to catch him. They could have just knocked him down and held him until the cops came.

I do have to say i extend my thanks to men who take pride in improving the safety of our communities. My grandfather said that was the way things use to be…

Yeah that’s how things used to be, and still are, in some places around the world. I believe that this type of justice should still be used; people will think twice before committing a crime.

  5. Janeiro and Guest: Good points I think you’re right about minority neighborhoods not feeling that the cops will defend them, so they have to defend themselves. The danger, of course, is if they have the wrong guy. Vigilante justice can quickly turn to disaster.
