This Day In Latino History
9 June 2009, 9:10 AM. By Cindy Casares

On this day in 1954 a young Puerto Rican baby named George Perez was born in the Bronx, New York to factory working parents. The Perezes eventually moved to Flushing, Queens where young George often visited Mike’s Comic Hut. Thank God for Mike’s because young George would become quite fascinated with comics and drawing. Aw. Not too many girlfriends we bet. Who cares! He grew up to draw The motherfucking Avengers and The motherfucking Teen Titans. And he designed Lex Luthor’s trademark battlesuit, — “a heavily-armored, flight-capable suit with kryptonite fixtures embedded in its gauntlets.” Gauntlets, people. In fact, he is considered to be one of the two most influential comic book artists of the 1980’s. Bet he was getting tons of play then. Okay, maybe not. But we’re sure he found a nice girl. As if all this weren’t enough, he left DC Comics in 1991 because they weren’t making a big enough deal over Wonder Woman’s 50th anniversary. Are you serious? This man should be knighted. At the very least, accept our wishes for a very Happy Birthday, George.
