María Belén Chapur Picture, Video: Okay, THIS Is Her.

Argentinean news networks C5N & Infobae say this woman is the María Belén Chapur that is currently crying with and schtupping Mark Sanford, governor of South Carolina. No offense to the other María Chapur, but this seems more plausible. We had a hard time imagining a man flying 11 hours for sex with the other lady. This María Belén Chapur is a journalist and this video was taken 8 years ago, in 2001, the year, coincidentally, that Sanford and Chapur first met. She was reporting, for Argentinean television, on the attacks on the World Trade Center in New York. The footage was shot a month after those attacks. The anchor featured in the video with her is Daniel Hadad who now owns several Argentinean media outlets including, you guessed it, C5N & Infobae. So, probably, he knows what the fuck he is talking about here.

UPDATE June 26, 2009: Argentinean paper La Prensa reported this morning that Chapur is a privileged and well-educated mother of two. She attended one of the most prestigious high schools in Argentina, St. Catherine ’s, and earned her degree in Political Science at the Universidad Católica Argentina. She divorced her husband in 2001 (despite Governor Mark Sanford’s counseling to the contrary) with whom she has two sons ages 19 and 15.
“She’s an elegant woman. Nice and respectful,” said Hebe Dominguez, the doorman of her apartment building who has been working there for 24 years and has known Chapura for four.

neither women looks worthwhile to fly across the world to see and risk your career over. Those eyebrows are wrong on so many levels. She has a horse face too. The media needs to quit trying to make this women “sexy” or “attractive”

An idiotic comment indeed. Argentinean women never wax their eybrows. Their focus is rather on keeping a healthy weight and toned body. They don’t obsess about painting their toenails either. I suppose it’s just a different idea of what is pleasing to the eye and where the priorities lie in terms of feeling comfortable in their own skin.

There are not two Maria Chapurs. The newsbroadcast is 8 years ago and the still photos are more recent. They are the same woman. Of course she was more of a babe 8 years ago. Unless you are extremely young, so were you.

This whole controversy just shows how stupid Western society is. Sanford is a normal man and should marry Maria without it effecting his current marriage. Sanford can afford two wives so why should he be limited to one? Clearly he loves both women and they love him.
American Liberals support gay marriage declaring that “people in love shouldn’t be denied the right to marry” so why should Sanford be denied legal status for his love? Monogamy is contrary to men’s nature and throughout most of human history, men were polygamous. If gay marriage is legal, so also should be polygamy.

The e-mails between Mark Sanford and Maria truly brought tears to my eyes. While others ridicule and view this as something sordid and base, I refuse to pass judgement simply because I understand their scarifies and suffering, for the sake of their families, these two had made over the course of time. Obviously fate and love that brought them together and it was not a cheap fling.
Most people stay in marriages out of duty or royalty — no one should deserve that little. Sometimes it takes a lifetime to find one’s soulmate; I hope they will forever treasure their precious movements.
While very few love affairs can weather the tempestuous storms; for those that do, may their beautiful love last an eternity.
