onion_news1663Gawker was either kind, smart or naïve enough to pick up our story on the woman believed to be the Maria Belen Chapur - the Argentine journalist who left South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford completely enculado.

Their commenters are, naturally, having a field day with this story. Especially of interest to us is commentary about Chapur’s Latinosity and what that might mean to a white man. We like to keep our ears open to what people with White Problems™ - who may not necessarily be white people - have to say about Latin spiciness and whatnot.

Here’s a taste:

Bwaha!

This reminds us of the time we were hit on at a bar by a guy and mentioned that we were Cuban. His reponse? “Ay chihuahua ayayayayayaya.” Yes. Ayayay indeed. That is, in fact, how Cubans roll. Always with the chihuahuas and the ayayays.

And then there’s this:

picture-37If Mark Sanford knew anything about Latinas, he’d know we’re all actually named either Yessica or Yasmina.

We find it interesting that so much is being made of the fact that this woman is Argentine / Latina and how this affair is assumed, even if only in jest, to be the product of a fetish on Sanford’s part. Can’t a lonely philandering loser actually fall in love with a person who happens to be Latina and not have it necessarily be symptomatic of a fetish?

Then again, this is a man who described Argentina as a place more “exotic” than the Appalachian trail.

  1. We Cubans do love Chihuahuas, especially with arroz y frijoles negros. The one I always got was “Is your family involved in cocaine?” due to the popularity of “Scarface”. Yeah, my abuelo is a cocaine kingpin, which is why we live in a middle class suburb of Houston.
