A story from the Augusta Chronicle dated December, 2008 reveals that Mark Sanford used government funds to pay for trips to Argentina, amongst other places, making him a top South Carolina government spender.

Gov. Mark Sanford ranks in the top 50 based on the total amount he spent on trips paid by his office and those paid by the state Commerce Department. Mr. Sanford has traveled to China, Argentina and Brazil through the Commerce Department, which has travel reports showing taxpayers covering $21,488 for those trips.

Mr. Sanford also spent $1,976 in travel through his office.

While some alibis are given for the trips to Brazil, ( “FITESA, a Brazilian fabrics maker, announced it would spend $120 million on a Laurens County facility and create 80 jobs”), and China, ( “Mr. Sanford took two staunch GOP allies with him”), no explanation is offered for the trip to Argentina. Until today, that is.

  1. Two things I CANNOT get over: the girl standing over the Sanford’s right shoulder & practically laughing her ass off as the state’s Governor confesses to a freakin affair via a televised news conference while bringing his career to a screeching hault. And if he didn’t at least bring back a killer leather bag & matching boots from BA for Mrs. Sanford. C’mon, we all know they have amazing leather down there!

    Brazil, Argentina and China?

Just recently a plane flying from Brazil to France crashed… flight 447. momento reported that a week before the 447 crash this same airline, Air France, had a flight from Argentina to Paris receiving a bomb threat.

So what is the good Guv’na from South Carolina doing in China?
