Patricia Mauceri Fired From One Life To Live For Thinking Same-Sex Relationships Are Gay
29 June 2009, 5:45 PM. By Alex Alvarez
One Life to Live actress Patricia Mauceri has been fired, with nary an evil-but-apologetic twin to save her. Mauceri objected to her character, Carlotta Vega, being supportive of the same-sex relationship between “Kyle” and “Fish.”
Now. We used to work at Soap Opera Weekly, once upon a time, but this was before Fish’s storyline. So, illuminate us: Is the name “Fish” in reference to prison slang? Not that we’ve ever had the privilege of being a hesitant male prison bottom, but we know, through our love of acquiring knowledge in no way applicable to our daily life, that “Fish” comes from “Starfish” which comes from the appearance of a puckered asshole So… are the calling a gay character “Asshole?” Because. Oh MY. It does beat names like “Chad” and “Bradley,” we suppose.
The role of Carlotta will now be played be fellow soap opera veteran Saundra Santiago.
Apparently, it had been important to the show’s writers to go against stereotypes and present Latina mother who was gay-friendly. So, there you go.
But, seriously. Fish? Really? Fish.

Everyone seems to be getting fired from Soaps these days. Speaking of which I need to get caught up on One Life to Live and The Young & The Restless.
Fish was on the canvas long before they decided to do a gay storyline with the character, so I doubt there’s a connection to his ass pucker.
