Perez Hilton Assaulted By Will.i.am

FIGHT! FIGHT!FIGHT! Perez Hilton got a beat down courtesy of Will.i.am and his security guards during the night. Apparently, at some after parties for the MUCHMUSIC awards in Canada, both Hilton and Will.i.am engaged in fisticuffs after Hilton allegedly ‘got all up in’ Black Eyed Pea singer Fergie’s face. She asked Hilton why he didn’t like their music and Hilton reportedly acted in a rude and snarky manner, which is so out of character for him, (<- Sarcasm). Will.i.am intervened when Hilton supposedly called him a nasty word for a gay man…which is…um, ironic.

Where is the love?

What happened next is blurry and turns into a case of he said, she said. Hilton claims in a series of tweets that Will.i.am and his body guards beat him up but Will.i.am says it was a fan and not him who attacked Hilton.

The interesting thing is that all of this was done over Twitter. Hilton tweeted that he was attacked by Will.i.am and asked fans to call the police for him. You have to wonder why he didn’t just call the police himself. [Ed: Update: Perez says he called the cops first, but they hadn't showed and he was panicking.] Status updates came frequently after that, keeping people up to date on how things were developing. Will.i.am then responded with a series of counter-tweets and a web video explaining his side of the story.

In an age when senators tweet from the floor of the senate and we can instantly know what Ashton Kutcher had for lunch, we are going to be privy to information quicker than we ever have before. However, just because we CAN recieve instantaneous info doesn’t mean it is either true or accurate. It is a tool that can be used for spin and manipulation as surely as an olde timey William Randolph Hearst yellow newspaper. You have to wonder, if one of Hearst’s reporters had been able to tweet about the battleship Maine having exploded in Havana harbor, whether the Spanish American war would have started sooner.
