Casting Robert Rodriguez’s The Jetsons Movie

Robert Rodriguez, rising from the ashes of his Barbarella failure with signature cowboy hat only slightly askew, is set to begin shooting a live-action movie version of The Jetsons beginning next year. Fun! We’re interested in see Rodriguez’s version of what the world will look like in 2062, but we wonder if already outdated features from the original series as it aired in the early 1960s. Will Jane Jetson still be a shopoholic and not a working mom? Will Rosie the Robot Maid be Latina or, perhaps more realistically for the U.S. in 2062, will the whole family be Latino? We have a feeling that, with Rodriguez in charge, there’s a good chance the might be. 

But who would be able to bring these beloved characters to life without making us want to drown ourselves in a vat of hot buttered popcorn? Let’s give a few suggestions:

George Jetson

This has to be someone likable and well-meaning but, in the vein of all sitcom fathers and husbands, somewhat clueless. George Lopez is our automatic go-to for Latino sitcom dad, but he’s not laid-back enough to do George Jetson justice. Plus, we like the idea of using a lesser-known actor. Who is hot. So how about Nicholas Gonzalez, from ANACONDA? 

Jane Jetson

She’s not Latina, but you know Rodriguez is going to cast his Spy Kids star Carla Gugino as Jane. She’s already got the hair.

Judy Jetson

We think it’d be cute to see 17-year-old Judy played by Alexis Bledel.

Elroy Jetson

We’re totally at a loss for a good 7-year-old to cast! First we thought of Adrian Alonso, the little boy from La Misma Luna, would be a good choice, but it turns out he’s since become a 15-year-old. But David Archuleta can sort of pass for a boy genius, no?

Rose the Robot Maid

Duh. 

Any other suggestions?
